Questions for Discussion:
1. Have you ever seen this famous opera, Turandot (杜蘭朵公主) or any other operas? When and where? Please share your experiences with your team members. Who are your favorite composers, and who are your favorite singers?
2. In your opinion, how does art attract and pull at people's hearts in so many ways? Have you ever been to a concert, movie, or any other artistic venues where you felt overwhelmed with emotions?
3. What are the Princess Turandot's three riddles and what are the answers from Prince Calaf? Did he solve them correctly? What are the punishments for giving the wrong answers? What do you think the composer, Giacomo Puccini, wants to express by these riddles?
4. Do you have any other better creative or funny answers for Turandot's riddles? Please share with us. Why do boyfriends or girlfriends ask each other tricky questions sometimes, many with no correct answers?
5. The most famous aria in this opera is probably "Nessun Dorma" (公主徹夜未眠). Many famous singers have ever performed it. Please share with us which version is your favorite one. Also, many traditional Chinese melodies are used in this opera, which ones have you noticed?
