Questions:
A. When you see a person for the first time, are there any outward signs they give which proclaim their status, interests or personality? What are those signs? Please descirbe them.
B. Think about what happens when you are talking to someone. What messages would the following behaviors send to your audiences?
1) Putting your hands in your pockets
2) Crossing your arms
3) Standing with your hands on your hips
4) Clasping your hands behind your back
5) Looking at the floor
C. Eye contact is important element in communication. And there are different ways of making it, including a constant, fixed, contact, or looking people in the eye for a moment and then looking away. What sort of eye contact do you use/prefer?
D. Make these statements by using your hands, face and body. The people in your table have to guess the statement you are making. (Don't do them in this order!)
1. I do not know. I have no idea of the answer.
2. I feel very ashamed and embarrassed.
3. I've got a good idea!
4. We won the match!
5. I'm confused.
6. I'm the boss.
7. I'm afraid.
8. This is really boring.
9. I don't want to talk to you.
10. I really like you and I'd like to get to know you better.
E. How much attention do you pay to how you act if you are in a meeting? Do you spin your pen round your thumb? Yawn? Doodle? How would you feel if you were in charge of the meeting and you saw someone is doing those things?
