Thanks a lot for your attention. Questions: 1. Some say that it takes 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to become world-class in any field. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? What skills do you want to improve, and you have done your 5,000 to 10,000 hours of drills for them? Will you keep practicing those skills in the future? Why or why not? What makes you stick to your vision for so long?
2. Do you believe in innate/natural talent or hard work? What talent do you possess? What are the things you can do better than anyone else? And how many hours have you put into mastering those skills? How can your talents and gifts benefit yourself and others?
3. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses for their business, family, and friend circles. If we want to improve ourselves in those fields, should we amplify our strengths or overcome our weaknesses?
4. What hard skills are necessary for you to learn? What makes you want to learn them? How many hours have you spent practicing? Do you have any difficulty mastering those skills? How do you sustain your daily practice; furthermore, how do you sustain your drills with joy?

Dear Taichung Happiers,
When can our practice of doing more than necessary work best? Well, Author Josh Stern provided a happy illustration: “when packing lunch boxes”.
What is your definition of excellence? How to be committed to continued excellence? Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle (384–322 BC) clarified the point--“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Our host Kevin is raising his inquiring eyebrow toward how we elevate ourselves by practicing. The discussion will give Happiers a real lift; welcome to be on board!
John Calvin Coolidge, Jr. (July 4, 1872 – January 5, 1933), the thirtieth President of the United States, highly valued persistence and determination as having total power. “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” The benefit of persistence is best manifested in Dr. Angela Duckworth’s research about Grit (sustained passion and perseverance for long-term goals). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDUergqVp20 In essence, how to create certain circumstances helping us to build grit is the most crucial challenge. How do you motivate yourself, by desires, reasons, or fulfillment? Looking forward to your story-sharing.
My most unforgettable school memory is about when my favorite teacher protested that practice can’t make perfect--perfect practice makes perfect, I could only “wow!” Remember that “Electricity” inside Billy Elliot? At first, he had only three friends at the class: scare, confusion, and frustration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69RNNex-sig What makes him fly like a bird eventually is the efficient practice—the intensive focus—making his practice more and more effective. Yes, we can light the torch with the power of focus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTfYv3IEOqM Yet, we are not just naively optimistic. Even former professional boxer Muhammad Ali confessed “I hated every minute of training”, but he said “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.” Therefore, let our sweat in the practice hours dancing with our desired goals. http://www.fastcompany.com/3058741/your-most-productive-self/how-can-you-tell-if-a-goal-is-achievable-and-realisticWhat is a unique practice habit of yours that you will recommend to Happiers? As we accumulate the practice hours, our approaches can gradually differ. However, how author Shunryu Suzuki redefined the object of practice is impressively insightful. “The goal of practice is always to keep our beginner’s mind.” Whatever our desired goals can be, practicing our curious mind can be a powerful transforming force. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk3DyQar0-Q Furthermore, in this Club, we are fortunate enough to have friends help and inspire our pursuit of English proficiency. Here is a great site I wholeheartedly endorse: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish . Honestly, how many hours have you spent on practicing listening and shadowing with English films? Hey, this irresistible film will definitely win your “can’t sleep love”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drcGanhEUgwFrom “The Circle of Life” (by Tim Rice)
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life
Either you have completed your 10,000 hours of practice or not, please find the constant pure joy of “being” yourself to be more creative and to support the meanings of “doing” surfacing again. We all want our Club to be a center of excellence. So, 10,000 hours in Happy English Club, anyone? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6rP-YP4c5I Join us. Thanks!!!With Gratitude,
Jasmine
