Questions:

1. This article introduces different anti-pandemic strategies in various countries, and it also triggers discussions from different angles. Which country enacting effective strategies impresses you most? What do you think may require such different anti-epidemic strategies?

2. Being at the top of the class of this pandemic prevention, what can Taiwan learn from the experiences of other countries? “Coronavirus has plunged the world into uncertainty and the constant news about the pandemic can feel relentless.” Please share what measures you have taken to respond (adapt, change) during the epidemic period? And, how to maintain your own psychological health?

3. What positive impact or reflection do you think the coronavirus pandemic has brought to us?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

The threatening scar, physically and psychologically startling, surprisingly awakens every heart.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZHOJHP33Ps

It’s a mysterious message; yet, it must be a mistake. The message: no sender, no sound. No receiver’s name, neither. It Must Be A Mistake! Something has happened, and we were not sure what. All of a sudden, the novel coronavirus has killed more than 100,000 people in the United States; hospitals are merging; one in five Boston public school students may be virtual dropouts. And, what would it take to get you back to the movie theater? People are panicking. We feel no Déjà Vu, and we inhale, sharply. We can’t stop it if it approaches us; don’t look back once it’s passed you by. It feels like the earth’s love has been cancelled. It is all washed out. It has gone. Gone. Gone. We listen to the news punctuated with sobs. We are afraid that we have nothing to offer each other, not even an empty promise. Every meal, we taste the fearful and terrible reluctance and loneliness; our insecure expression comes into the bottom of our bowls. We know we should worry about this; however, we can hardly increase the strength. We stare at this pandemic breathlessly, because it can bite. Nonetheless, if super-hero films always reassure us, Greek philosopher and polymath Aristotle (384–322 BC) can be the best leading actor. “The beauty of the soul shines out when a man bears with composure one heavy mischance after another, not because he does not feel them, but because he is a man of high and heroic temper.” We are at home, yet “homesick” for a world where everything on the street is softened, where the sun falls warm on our shoulders…

The secretive virus…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJdYHwSjS0c This pandemic is a butterfly. The pandemic seems to have spread its wings, and then, quietly closed them; spread its wings, and then, quietly closed them; spread its wings, and then, quietly closed them… How farther? How deeper? The traces may seem fully formed; yet, in reality, that may not develop into answers. We have made ourselves forget that we can create new ways to live, and then we realize our mistake. https://centrespringmd.com/the-bad-habi ... -pandemic/ The pandemic offers a window into our habits. Our past habits and present habits. What habits make us lose the balance? When we start being healed again, smiling at the song again, the charm of the natural world puts everything into perspective, allowing us to face the facts. The new image we dream of is the natural world. We rely on the natural world; we rely on the blue sky; we rely on the clean air and clean water. https://www.gvm.com.tw/article/72777?ut ... aign=daily The secretive virus…The more intensely we stare, the more transparent the darkness becomes. This pandemic seems to refer to our lost best friend. Is our health, or our soul, our lost best friend? Are we compelled by the pandemic to pick, to poke the murmur of our lost best friend, and to ponder over the laughter of our lost best friend? https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/04/ ... le-advice/

What is “Humanity and Economy” but another name of “Choices and Chances”? For example, when it comes to the Coronavirus pandemic: the Arctic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nOl2aCC7LY vs Sweden https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzzVxw5FyYs . The Coronavirus pandemic is like the butterfly on the bridge, waving, and waving, and waving. It anticipates a strong reaction; it furiously asks us to open the door of imagination. It furiously urges us to think and act differently, and to do things more efficiently to compensate for everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsArdIXgRTU When black leaves blowing across a deserted piazza is a new normal of 2020, nothing but kindness can help humanity and economy go in the right direction. People can grow and grow like Jack’s beanstalk when we give more—they can spread and support to the considerable height. It might make us feel much smaller, somehow, much more satisfied as well. https://www.forbes.com/sites/igorbosilk ... d61a95a0af What is “Humanity and Economy” but another name of “Choices and Chances”? When chance is an order that no one can yet see, we’d better make our choices out of kindness. Merely because, kindness can turn our every anxiety into a matter for confidence and embrace. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sXgj8SdfwU

May the force be with us—the force of creativity and positivity. https://tanksgoodnews.com/2020/05/19/te ... -students/ (All right, if you are not touched by this teacher at all, it only means you don’t have a heart.) After we swallow down the unease, the bigger picture reassuring us re-surfaces. Every situation conceals within itself unforeseen positive possibilities. This pandemic is at least bringing us to understand the source of the intimacy we feel with our home, our family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH1gCjD6rkc Moreover, optimism can be learned. We could be silent or sickly during this unexpected and unprecedented storm, yet, after it, we can grow up, brilliant and alert. Adapting a positive mindset interrupts the silence; the force will spin around like the airplanes arriving from the unknown distances. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog ... e-pandemic The physical or psychological scar will run through us like a quiver. It marks the defining moments of our lives. It remarkably reminds us that we have the right to respect; we have the right to develop; we have the right to learn. This hopeless period won’t last very long; the wind and the rain will give way to sunshine. May the force be with us—the force of creativity and positivity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZREpz1ZH6Q

From “Invictus” (by William Ernest Henley)

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Perhaps, the most enjoyable parties are made by people embracing disturbance. We want to, and we will, feel that wave of euphoria again. Euphoria! It’s like we have just pushed ourselves a drift. It’s like we are floating. It’s like we can leave things behind us. Sometimes the only way forward is back up. Forget about what we have had, and, start again. The startling scar makes us step backwards; yet, our hearts illuminate, further and stronger. We will step up again with no signs of soreness. It is the hand of humanity we see first. We stare at the soul more steadily. We search for something sweet and spectacular: seeing the shining eyes; finding waves of warmth; discovering the miracle of life, once again. Sometimes, we feel the scar strike and wonder what it comes for. Somehow, we understand a bit better now. We got to be grateful for everything that still cuts. We are the scar, and we are the scar-hunter. Find our creativity, find our roads. Where the symphony stretches out again, life stretches out again. Perhaps, the most enjoyable parties are made by people embracing disturbance. Let us smile together again, shall we? Join us. Thanks!!!
