Topic Discussion Article: Problems at Shanghai Expo hit visitor numbers (文章)

Questions for Discussion:

Session 1

1. Do you plan to visit Shanghai for this big event? Why or why not? Have you visited Shanghai before? What are some tourist attractions in Shanghai?

2. What's the theme of this year's world expo? Do you know the meaning behind the Taiwan pavilion?

3. What are some of the muted criticisms mentioned in the article? What are some improvements that can be made?

Session 2

4. Did you watch the opening ceremony of the Expo 2010? Did you think it was better or worse than the olympics opening ceremony? Was it too perfectly choreographed for your liking?

5. The article mentioned that some people choose not to attend due to the huge queues. Have you ever used public transportation in China or Japan? Did you think it was too crowded for your liking?

6. Nowadays we can exchange information with a click of a mouse. Do you think spending billions of dollars and removing thousands of houses to provide such a big platform for cultural exchange is necessary?
