I Do…or Do I? Why are so many women getting married later in life—or not at all—and are there consequences?

Please Note:
Venue:台中市南屯區大業路182號 Mos Burger
Thanks a lot for your attention.

Questions:
1. When did you get married? Do you think it’s just right time for you or it’s too early or too late? Why? If you are still single, when do you think is the better time to walk into marriage? Or, do you consider (have you considered) being single or cohabiting without the bondage of marriage in your life?

2. What’s the age you think a woman should seriously consider getting married? And how about a man? What do your parents think upon this issue? "

3. “Marriage has never happened this late or been this infrequent in the history of the country.” This situation is also happening in Taiwan. From your points of view, why did this happen?

4. Do you agree what Susan Patton said, “ find a husband on campus before you graduate….You will never again be surrounded by this concentration of men who are worthy of you.”? Or do you more agree to what Sandberg said that “It’s really important to be a fully formed adult when you get married”?

5. We all know family-of-origin always has a fundamental impact on the individual. If you are single, what do you learn from your parents’ marriage? If you are married with young adult children, what would you like your kids to learn from you?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

We love Director Ang Lee’s sense of humor talking about his legendary marriage, don’t we? So, what is your expectation of marriage? For relationship, what kinds of quality do you have, sense or sensibility? Being curious about your attitude toward marriage, we are looking forward to your participation in this weekend’s discussion hosted by our happiest lady, Jane.

Without a crystal ball, we can still see Jane’s husband saying what Nora Roberts (the American bestselling author, who has won numerous awards) urged: “When you find somebody you love, all the way through, and she loves you—even with your weaknesses, your flaws, everything starts to click into place. And if you can talk to her, and she listens, if she makes you laugh, and makes you think, makes you want, makes you see who you really are, and who you are is better, just better with her, you’d be crazy not to want to spend the rest of your life with her. ” (Happy Ever After, 2010) Being a female, I always remind myself to learn more from Jane’s elegant temperaments. Also, wish every Happier can love his/her partner’s amiable personalities and create a balance for other aspects.

To prepare a mood for the pleasant discussion theme, let us read this heartfelt poem as a warm-up before the gathering.

Marriage Morning
By Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Light, so low upon earth,
You send a flash to the sun.
Here is the golden close of love,
All my wooing is done.
Oh, the woods and the meadows,
Woods where we hid from the wet,
Stiles where we stay'd to be kind,
Meadows in which we met!

Light, so low in the vale
You flash and lighten afar,
For this is the golden morning of love,
And you are his morning star.
Flash, I am coming, I come,
By meadow and stile and wood,
Oh, lighten into my eyes and heart,
Into my heart and my blood!

Heart, are you great enough
For a love that never tires?
O' heart, are you great enough for love?
I have heard of thorns and briers,
Over the meadow and stiles,
Over the world to the end of it
Flash for a million miles.
