How deep is your love for movies? Guess how many movies our fellow Kelvin Wung used to watch in a single day with his lovely wife? The answer is …………8! Amazing, isn’t it? Yes. Movies have the most powerful effect on popular culture. The beauty of movie is constructed like a poem with layers and layers of meanings: stories are told in movies (with rich audio and visual effect varieties); our minds just totally sink into the ocean of the movie structures; movies quietly reveal the details of other people’s mental states to us. Ladies and gentlemen, we sincerely welcome you to join this mind-blowing discussion hosted by Nathan: What Makes a Film Good?

Filmmakers create mirrors to reflect lights in different corners from different temporal dimensions. The American Award-winning director Robert Bernard Altman (February 20, 1925 – November 20, 2006) noted: “Filmmaking is a chance to live many lifetimes.” Therefore, are you as curious as I am about what on earth is in directors’ minds? Honored as one of the most influential filmmakers in cinema history, Martin Charles Scorsese reminds us: “Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places, they open doors and minds. Movies are the memories of our life time, we need to keep them alive.” Yes. Movies make missing values surface again. No matter what our movie preferences are, we regard those movies seeking empathy from this world as the best.
