Dear Taichung Happiers,

Do you have any unique feelings about today, 23 April? Yes. Today is World Book and Copyright Day.
http://www.un.org/en/events/bookday/

Reading invites new opportunities. Having won many awards for her writing, American author Joyce Carol Oates says: "Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul." The authors always call for connections and inspire us to share ourselves with each other. Reading can make us more human. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/06/how-reading-makes-us-more-human/277079/

Ehhh…, wait. This week’s article is titled “Can Reading Be Saved?” Why? What is killing reading? Have you noticed this “Readicide” phenomenon?

Charles William Eliot (March 20, 1834 – August 22, 1926) was selected as Harvard’s president in 1869, and he used to address “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” How do you feel when you first touch a book you have longed for? Do you like the smell of books while reading? Can you read the authors’ minds, or, you see the authors are reading your mind? While reading, can you hear the author always whispering quietly: you are not alone? Now, hold our breath, and ask ourselves: How can we not love reading?

Reading is everyone’s Aladdin who can open our eyes, take us wonder by wonder, and finally show us a whole new world.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIlu5rNfulE Whoever we are, wherever we come from, reading can treat everyone equally and guild us to travel without geographical and time boundaries. So, what have you been reading lately? I am reading The Book Thief. If you don’t have this book, take two minutes to check out this film trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92EBSmxinus&app=desktop

I cannot tell Jane (junior, a brave and brilliant first-time host) how much I love this topic. If I am a cureless dreamer, let me be. Please don’t wake me up. Please don’t. Please don’t. Let us remember the moments reading transforms us. Let us remember to read to whomever in need--it is the sweetest way to spread love.

Find the magic carpet. Never should we close our eyes. “…….A whole new world-- No one to tell us no, or where to go, or say we’re only dreaming……………….”
