Please Note:
Venue:台中市南屯區大業路182號 Mos Burger
Thanks a lot for your attention.

Questions:
1. Did you play Die-Xian before? You’d better not say you can play alone by yourself. If so, did you really do it “successfully”? Please share your experience and your purpose of the game. Do you also know there could be some side effects after playing Die-Xian?

2. Did you ever see Fu-ji (扶乩) at Taoist ceremony? Perhaps it could be hard to comment on or explain its root cause. However, once the instruction has been assigned to you after the ceremony, will you follow it, consider following it, or absolutely not follow it at all?

3. Do you know about ghost marriage? Ghost marriage is a Chinese tradition. It is also called ‘Minghun’ or spirit marriage. In Chinese ghost marriage, one or both of the parties of the marriage are dead persons. If you are appointed as the “candidate”, will you follow it or not? If you won’t follow it, do you believe you will have offended taboos in the future?

4. Eight Characters (八字, in four pairs, including the year, month, day and hour of a person’s death), so formerly used in fortune-telling. It is said the weighting of Eight Characters can determine people’s destinies. Perhaps you don’t believe that; however, do you take some precautions if it is said that your pairs are too weak/ light?

5. For traditional festival on lunar 7/15, could you share some paranormal stories (whatever you indeed experienced or learned from friends/ books)?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

“What is a ghost’s favorite dessert?”
“Ice scream!”

A joke a day keeps ghosts away! For the Ghost Festival (According to the Chinese folk culture, the 7th lunar month is so-called Ghost Month), our host Jeffrey proposed this intriguing topic: Playing The Chinese Oujia Board – Die Xian (碟仙). Taoism is not my religion, and it is not every member’s religion, neither. However, everyone will be welcomed to join us, because Happiers can take this opportunity to further understand another side of Taiwanese fork culture and see if we can focus on new positive thoughts.

All right, first, get this warm-up exercise. Then, tell us what you see after twisting your tongue. One, two, three, go!
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts,
With stoutest wrists and loudest boasts,
He thrusts his fist against the posts
And still insists he sees the ghosts.

In her book More Than you Know, American author Beth Gutcheon depicted the heart of a haunting experience. “I don't suppose you have to believe in ghosts to know that we are all haunted, all of us, by things we can see and feel and guess at, and many more things that we can't.” Ah, then, I’d rather be haunted by the most gorgeous Libraries in the world! Actually, we don’t really understand Taiwan if we haven’t participated Taiwanese Ghost Festival. What attitude or value system lies underneath the actions of people who are involved? Check this out.

Whatever we could be haunted by, Shakespeare encouraged people not to be afraid.
Hamlet: Act1, Scene4
Angels, and ministers of grace, defend us!
Be thou a spirit of health, or goblin damn'd.
Bring with thee airs from heaven, or blasts from hell.
Be thy intents wicked or charitable.
Thou com'st in such a questionable shape,
That I will speak to thee.

Whatever we could be haunted by, Taiwan should not be, and will not be, haunted. During the past few days, we have witnessed strangers’ kindness helping Kaohsiung gas explosion victims and their families. These strangers’ kindness is greatly appreciated and respected. Remember that compassion is contagious. Pass it on. Meanwhile, with grief, we are once again reminded how great it is to be alive. Now, let us feel the passions of the elderly.
