Dear Taichung Happiers,
Q: Why do girls like baseball?
A: It's the only sport played on a diamond!
Take a guess: what is our host Howard’s favorite sport? Why? Here are some hints: H is for hard work, O is for open-mindedness, W is for warrior-spirit, A is for athleticism, R is for rejoicing, and D is for divine. Ladies and gentlemen, for this weekend, Howard will present you the necessity of HOWARD, “The Importance of Sports”.
What part of sports culture affects you most? If you call yourself a true sports fan, this is a must-read. http://scholar.harvard.edu/patterson/publications/culture-sports Remember the film “Invictus”? The great leader Nelson Mandela envisioned the bigger picture through sports. Being motivated by him and the coach, their rugby team performed profoundly, and it transformed the fate and the soul of their country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNsm8uka6B4Whatever the outcomes of the games can be, the processes of sports can inspire the most philosophical thoughts to create our long-lasting positive energy. Martial artist Bruce Lee (November 27, 1940 – July 20, 1973) instructed that “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” Besides, have you ever questioned which is bigger, practice or competition? By redefining success as knowing why you do what you do, Jeremy Lin devotes himself to serving as many underprivileged children as he can and encourages the youth to pursuit a deeper passion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVKPnAX9Enc (start at 30:32)
From The Racer (by John Masefield)
Would that the passionate moods on which we ride
Might kindle thus to oneness with the will;
Would we might see the end to which we stride,
And feel, not strain, in struggle, only thrill.
And laugh like him and know in all our nerves
Beauty, the spirit, scattering dust and turves.
Sport is a magical mirror reflecting our characteristics. The secret power is like what former professional athlete and author Mariah Burton Nelson admonished us: “Think of yourself as an athlete. I guarantee you it will change the way you walk, the way you work, and the decisions you make about leadership, teamwork, and success.” The strong theme of the film Turning Tide perfectly interprets this concept. Sport is human. Nothing but humanity can lead the way to our right choices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoIBkFmK5s4Sport is a global language as powerful and pleasing as English. With it, people like Mini Lee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzXL-KM2UqU and little Jesse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEjGQB9BKWA can blow your mind. Fundamentally, everyone can discover their own HOWARD--H is for hard work, O is for open-mindedness, W is for warrior-spirit, A is for athleticism, R is for rejoicing, and D is for divine--welcome to share it out loud with our host Howard. Thanks! With Gratitude,
Jasmine
