Thanks a lot for your attention.
Questions:
1. One tradition of Halloween is the telling of scary stories. Do you know any scary stories?
2. There are some similarities between Halloween and the Chinese Ghost Festival; do you follow the traditions and rules of Ghost Month?
3. The celebration of Halloween has origins in remembering the dead and confronting the concept of death with humor. How do you think about death?
4. These days, people don’t just wear scary costumes in Halloween. They wear costumes based on many things, including popular news stories and politicians, and even sexy themes. There are some new developed practices of Ghost Month, too (ex. burning the latest fashion things made of paper), how do you feel about those new developed practices?
5. Many traditional practices involve superstition. Do you think that we should transmit those traditional practices from generation to generation?
Before starting our article, let’s play a little game. Everyone is required to prepare a few Chinese or Taiwanese phrases, idioms, or slangs(中文或台語的成語及俚語) and give your phrases or idioms to someone beside you. The person who receives the phases or idioms has to describe it in English and follow some rules as below.
1. You must pick one of those phrases or idioms that you receive and describe that in what situations you will use those phases, idioms, or slangs.
2. You can’t just translate those phases, idioms, or slangs in English.
3. You can’t mention any words in those phrases or idioms that you receive.
For example, if your phrase is “水噹噹”,you can’t literally or figuratively translate it in English or mention any word about water, rings, or bells. You must describe that in what situation you will use this phrase and let our members guess it. Anyone who gets the right answer will receive a decent gift. However, anyone breaking the rules mentioned above will get a little punishment.
Don’t pick up too simple or difficult phrases or idioms. Please make it a slightly challenging but not excessive game. Everyone needs to prepare at least 3 phrases or idioms. And it will be welcomed if you could bring some special candies or snacks. So prepare for that and have fun.
