Questions:
1. Gene editing could potentially help avoid heritable diseases by deleting or changing troublesome coding in embryos. Should we or shouldn’t we be allowed to modify human DNA in future babies? Why?
2. Should we or should not we use gene-editing to treat adult patients?
3. If you are allowed to design one thing (any feature, talent or character) for your baby, what you would choose?
4. Have you heard any news, watched any movie or read any book about Gene-editing or Gene?
Topic: Gene-edited baby
A Chinese scientist, He Jiankui, who claims to have created the world's first genetically edited babies in Nov 2018. Such gene-editing work is banned in most countries, including China. This news gives us a chance to discuss the questions raised by biological and medical research.
