What does family mean to you? Oh, family. What is that uncontrollable urge to squeeze each other’s faces? We share a long look when, sometimes, family love is a mystery to us. In the Award–winning book Life of Pi, the Spanish-born Canadian author Yann Martel regards a mother as the sun above us; a father as a tree supporting its branches; a brother as someone with whom we can share the experience of growing old. Perhaps, that’s why so many Jewish institutions are providing educational programs with the child in mind and creating courageous family inclusive experiences. Perhaps, that’s like what French novelist, critic, and essayist Marcel Proust (10 July 1871 – 18 November 1922) had addressed, “After a certain age, and even if we develop in quite different ways, the more we become ourselves, the more our family traits are accentuated.” Family is the big umbrella, which protects us, either it’s sunny or not. Our parents are always there to raise us the right way, and nurture and guide us when we feel the pressure in our lungs. Family life has the most indescribable yet invaluable influence in shaping our character and pleasure. Family love propels us into action. How does your family make you the hero of your family story? Hey, X’mas is approaching! When it comes to X’mas and family, everything is open and beautiful beyond measure. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to join us on this “confession” time.

In every family, everyone’s future is determined by only three connected things. Love. Forgiveness. Sacrifice. Whatever family issues that matter to us most, every memory of every family is weaved with love. Without my parents’ forgiveness, my ignorance would have turned me into another person. Parents’ love is 200% unconditional. They give up too much before we know we are loved. Family love opens every door. Family love leads us in celebration of our faith. Eventually, it is understandable. We got confused. We thought it is blood that makes what we are—it definitely makes us a family and gives us a sense of responsibility—but blood is not what we depend on. It is something more. It is the love, the forgiveness. The sacrifices. The sacrifices for our family, our organization, and our society. Love is the only thing to compose family music of our own. Eventually, we realize that, in every family, there were moments of apparent worries. Or, sometimes, a distant and deep sigh. Eventually, we realize nobody in any family should be left behind.
