The mirror of social media. There are 42% of people worldwide using social media; according to survey, YouTube is America's most popular social media platform. 300 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute. Among them, educational videos, comedy videos, gaming videos, Vlogs, How-To videos, and product review videos are the most popular. American writer Nicholas G. Carr, who has published books and articles on technology, business, and culture, holds the mirror of social media up to us. On one side of the mirror, “The Net’s interactivity gives us powerful new tools for finding information, expressing ourselves, and conversing with others.” On the other side of it, “It also turns us into lab rats constantly pressing levers to get tiny pellets of social or intellectual nourishment.” YouTube’s popularity is forever increasing--it’s like a powerful drug--we can't get enough of it. YouTube makes us sometimes smile silently yet sweetly at the air, and, other times, stare at the screen in bewilderment. Social media addiction is like a shadow that would never wash. This “connected” thing could so easily cause panic felt like hope from time to time. It isn’t the deep emotion that has us decide to linger on, though; it is the confused desire. Nevertheless, YouTube has transformed what it means to be a politician, a celebrity, the Ad industry, the educational establishments, etc. So, we are wondering about what will fuel your interest to start your own channel. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to join our host Gary on this “unconventional” journey.

YouTube has changed the world. “I have a ton of followers, but I need help improving social media engagement.” “Just misspell something.” Youtube came into our noisy world like a cool and cleansing wave. In front of us rises an endless forest of images and videos. Politicians use YouTube to rebuild their relationship with voters; Justin Bieber was found on YouTube; video gamers fiercely “friend” their audience; Youtube also gives educational formulations a big boost up. These are all combined to wash away the overwhelming sense of familiarity. We are ourselves, again, out here. Free. Jessica Gall Myrick, an assistant professor for The Media School at Indiana University, has proven it wrong to regard watching videos as guilty pleasure. Her research result reveals that watching cat videos is a powerful positive reinforcement—it can raise our energy level and reduce anxiety, sadness, and anger. We’re still getting high on the YouTube! We couldn't live without YouTube now. Especially, social media has become an immense business bringing social networks $23.5 billion in ad revenue annually. Besides, 90% of companies worldwide are using social media for brand awareness, because, 1 billion hours of video content is watched every day. Is, your heart, beating, faster, now? We don’t know what we really are until falling in love with social media (at least, for a little while). While people are so consumed with social media, responsibilities missed, people lost. It happens to too many of us. The cause of addiction—driven by dopamine—is from our desire for a reward, in term of a like, comment, or message from social media. A dance of Dopamine stirs at our brains, and we can hear the soft sound of something creeping slowly in the dark. Dr. Robert Sapolsky, a professor of biology and neurology at Stanford University, assuredly asserted that it is nothing but anticipation that makes human special, and “Dopamine is not about pleasure, it’s about the anticipation of pleasure. Find the balance, find the confidence. Have a No, No, No Day—no Internet connection. No? We got lost in the eyes of YouTube, drowning in “blue”. Out of control, what can we do? All right, despite our fear for addiction, we feel a surge of excitement. Watching YouTube videos can be a little nice escape from work or school. Also, we can learn anything on YouTube—if we have enough time—if we have enough motives. We remember the warmth of the voice, the pull we feel while participating online discussions and learning communities. Moreover, YouTube can be one of our ways to explain our “why”. How should our brand definition be perceived? Where is the intersection of our passion as human beings and the value of our services? Abhijit Naskar, one of the world's celebrated Neuroscientists and an international bestselling author of numerous books, admonished us that “Use the internet wisely for not just the petty enjoyment of your senses, but for the development of your mind as well.” Yes. Social media addicts are seized by an amazing fulfillment they can’t quite comprehend. They feel empty. Very empty. Should we be well prepared to assemble the pieces from the puzzle that is beginning to form in our minds with hypotheses and speculations? Only in the darkest sky, can we see the brightest stars.
