It’s everyone’s birthright to travel. Besides, here comes summer! Summer! What is another name of summer but travel? Other than your home town, where is your favorite summer BBQ destination? What is your dream land like? In what do you have an innate interest? Do you have the curiosity about living in a new city for one or two years for sugar, spice, and everything nice? Research results have shown the physical and mental benefits from traveling. What does it require to achieve your travel bucket list, except for time and money? We need to adventure more, adapt more, accept more, and appreciate more, to open the mind, to connect with more cultures, to have a truly interesting, intriguing, and engaging life. There is an enormous encouragement from American writer, humorist, and entrepreneur Mark Twain (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” So, what are we waiting for? Everyone needs an obsession. We have to exert ourselves to see this world. Has your passion for travel survived? For the “yes”, everyone should be grateful. The only thing we have to pack is a learning mindset. Every destination is home. “How can you tell elephants love to travel?” “They are always packing their trunk!” In daily life, we keep expecting certainty, so that, more often than not, we are imprisoned by habit, by profession, and by our beliefs. In every travel destination, the observation of our behaviors and the perspectives we develop in different contexts and cultures grant us the feeling of connection and belonging. Travel! Every destination is home. Every local people is family. “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.” Families are a composite of stories. Traveling teaches us faith and trust. Traveling teaches us to have faith in humanity. Local people disarm us with their warmth, friendliness, and appreciation. The smile on every local people’s face projects hospitality and honesty—we learn to trust our guts. Traveling teaches us faith and trust--faith in something intangible; trust in something immeasurable. Edgar H. Schein, a former professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, reflects that “Most of my important lessons about life have come from recognizing how others from a different culture view things.” Yes, and its echoes are everywhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12sJbTH1TXg Travelers co-create each other and recreate themselves through each journey. Local people make us think of all the cities, all the beaches, and all the summers we have known. Their culture might be foreign, yet its meaning is completely clear in any language. Ultimately, we find the contradiction. Traveling has opened up new channels in our memory; traveling is the strongest memory trigger we have. With our faces against the trip photos, we are thrown down the memory lane. Every destination is home. Every local people is family. Every travel memory is second to none. It’s everyone’s birthright to travel; whenever we fly, we are in an elaborate dialogue with ourselves. Travel is like reading--the more time we spend on it, the more satisfying smiles we secure, and the more we assure ourselves that we won’t regret it. We don’t know we don’t know who we are until we travel. Without our pure hearts and beautiful minds as witnesses, nothing we do during traveling is meaningful. Physician, patriot, and humanitarian Benjamin Rush (January 4, 1746 – April 19, 1813) really reminded us that “while you are seeing the world, the world will see you.” Every land realizes. Every river remembers. Our heavy and happy snoring after returning home is the most reassuring sound on earth. If we’d stop to think about any trip, we would realize that our memories, and even our bones, are elevating. Wherever is next, we don’t know, but our hearts know. We trust our hearts. We are ready.
