Dear all,

I just got this link from my sister. It's touching and worth to take a look...
We should try to be thankful and postive no matter what challenges we encounter.

"When you keep concentrating on the things you wish you could have or the things you wish you didn’t have. You sort of forget what you do have.”

I think everyone heard something about this in their childhood. This video is quite encouraging because the person presented himself as an example. People are easily influenced by other people, so they might envy someone of his abilities, his heritage, and his serendipity. They forget their values should be confirmed by themselves before other people pay attention to the values. There must be something which makes them different. Though the characteristics are not recognized by other people, it doesn’t mean they are not existent. Finding their own value is more important than envying other people. However it is not easy. People try to imitate and study others about their abilities and attractions because those abilities and attractions are broadly admired. For example, they want to sing well because they see their friends are praised for singing well. They want to be good at English because their friends get accolades for good English. They forget they are good at playing piano, writing, or doing exercise. When they focus on other people’s abilities, they lose the advantage to stand under the spotlight.

I usually don’t believe in my judgment and ability, so I need someone confirms them. In other words, I am easily influenced. I know it is never a good thing, but the mind trap is never easy to get rid of. I have to say I do believe easier saying than doing. That is also why I kind of feel I wasted my time reading 劉墉’s books in the childhood for the same reason. All these years, my characteristics are firmly shaped. How am I going to change them overnight or in a short time? Some people tell me change takes time. I migt be just too lazy and have no time probably.

“I may not have hands to hold my wife’s hand, but when the time comes, I will be able to hold her heart. I don’t need hands to hold her heart. “

What a line!!! I almost shed tears.

Thank you Karen for the very nice intro to Nick Vujicic.

Here is his wikipedia article

Nick Vujicic (born December 4, 1982) is a motivational speaker and the director for Life Without Limbs, an organization that is for the physically disabled.

Personal life

First-born child into his devout Serbian Christian family, Nick Vujicic was born in Melbourne, limbless, missing both arms at shoulder level, and having one small foot with two toes protruding from his left thigh. Initially, his parents were devastated. However, Nick turned out to be otherwise perfectly healthy.

His life was filled with difficulties and hardships. One hardship was not being able to attend a mainstream school because of his physical disability, as the law of Australia required, even though he was not mentally impaired. During his schooling, the laws were changed, and Nick was one of the first disabled students to be migrated to a mainstream school. He learned to write using the two toes on his left "foot," and a special device that slid onto his big toe to grip. He also learned to use a computer and type using the "heel and toe" method (as demonstrated in his speeches). He can also throw tennis balls and answer the phone (also demonstrated in speeches).

Being bullied at his school, Nick grew extremely depressed, and by the age of eight, started contemplating suicide. After begging God to grow arms and legs, Nick eventually began to realize that his accomplishments were inspirational to many, and began to thank God he was alive. When he was seventeen, he started to give talks at his prayer group, and eventually started his non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs...

Career

Nick graduated from college at the age of 21 with a double major in Accounting and Financial Planning. He began his travels as a motivational speaker, focusing on the topics that today's teenagers face. He also speaks in the corporate sector, although his aim is to become an international inspirational speaker, in both Christian and non-Christian venues. He regularly travels internationally to speak to Christian congregations, schools, and corporate meetings. He has spoken on four continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America), in over twelve countries, and to over two million people face-to-face.

By the age of 25, Nick hopes to become financially independent. He wishes to promote his words through shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as by writing books. His first book, planned for completion by the end of 2009, is to be called No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!

A DVD, Life's Greater Purpose, is available on the Life Without Limbs website. Most of the DVD was filmed in 2005, featuring a brief documentary about his home life, and how he does regular things without limbs. The second part of the DVD was filmed at his local church in Brisbane, and was one of his first professional motivational speeches.

His secular DVD "No Arms, No Legs, No Worries" is available online through his corporate motivational speaking company "Attitude Is Altitude."

Nick's first worldwide television interview, featured on 20/20 (ABC) with Bob Cummings was aired on March 28, 2008.

Life Without Limbs

The Life Without Limbs organization, which Vujicic founded in 2005, is aimed at giving people living with no limbs motivation and inspiration for their lives. This is done by giving speeches worldwide about Christian faith and the impact that faith in God can have to help the world.

He deals with topics like fear and rejection, depression, suffering, and even unanswered prayers. The speeches take place in both Christian and non-Christian environments including churches, schools, and other venues.

He appeared in a BodyShock documentary about his life. The documentary is entitled 'Born without Limbs,' and was broadcast on May 5, 2008.

This viedo is deeply moving....
I am always thankful and satisfied with all things around me.
However, it's still hard for me to recognize my own value. Sometime, I do feel helpless.
Anyway, just keep going and be hopeful....

Dear Willie,
If it is too difficult to change, then don't change it. You need others' confirmation, and we would give you. It's not only because you are a friend but what you've done or said is right.
So, don't be doubtful about youself. :P

Dear Karen,
Thanks for sharing~
Lemonade is yummy :D

Dear Karen,
up to tears....
thank you for your share! Q_Q
I also watched other Nick's videos on youtube, he just like Western 乙武洋匡.
really touching.... I love his view of life, his passion for life, and one of his word "we should not compare sufferings."
It really inspire me.....

Dear Willie,
how could a person change his characteristics in a short time to another person if he were not Hulk or Spider-Man? ...ha
I t might be not about "No time" but about "how desperate you are to change" and "patience."
but as your word "They forget their values should be confirmed by themselves."
maybe you don't need to change your characteristics but more confidence. it's also my lesson... Go for it! :)
