I Like Hiking …… Well I am not So Sure !!

Hello Everyone, It's me again. I am Golden. Today my topic is “I like hiking …. Well I am not so sure!!”

My Dad said I like hiking. He said hiking is a good exercise, and it's a good entertainment as well. He said I should be fond of it. Well, I have no objection on the exercise part, but for entertainment, my interest is not so strong.

My home stays in Nei-Hu, which is the northern outskirt of Taipei city. There are many small hills in that region. Actually it's a wonderland for the hiking fanatics. There are always people hovering around over the mountains, like they never get tired. If you check the map, you will find many different paths connecting Nei-Hu to Wai-Shuang-His, to Yang-Ming-Shan, to Bei-Tou, and to Tian-Mu. It's hard to imagine how people can walk such a long distance. I would like to say “Not for me, thanks!”

No matter like it or not, I did take some hiking. My Mom & Dad said they needed some companies and Jonathan and I were the most convenient choices. So we went. I treated it as a personal favor to my parents and that was a real big favor. You may not understand, every time, I had to get up early. I had to sacrifice sleep on Sunday morning. After walking a long distance, my leg would be aching the next day. The whole body would be fatigued. My parents felt good, but I always felt exhausted.

There are some paths that we usually take. One of them is entering from Wai-Shuang-Hsi and walking out of Nei-Hu. This is a popular path. We often met many company excursion groups in this place. At a certain place along the road, we could see the Palace Museum sitting at the bottom of the mountain. A big open space was presented in front of us. That was really a peaceful moment.

There were people doing all kinds of activities in the mountain. I've seen people riding mountain bikes and even motorcycles on the steep path. That was cool. It must take a lot of strength to ride the bike uphill. Some people carrying dogs with them, maybe dogs need exercise too. I've seen people doing exercise and singing while they were walking. There were times, I would meet an old Mr. who was naked on the top and kept yelling loudly. I guess he was practicing the “Chi-Kung”. Or maybe he had phlegm in his throat and tried to cough it out. Anyway, you would find a lot of interesting people in the mountain, normal and abnormal.

There was a rest stop half way on the road. Some food venders were serving there. They supplied Ten-Bu-Lar, stinky To-Fu and Oyster noodles. We always took a break and got some Ten-Bu-Lar. That's my favorite. Although it really wasn't something special, but it did taste good, especially after a long walk.

In summer time, I would find quite a few insects and animals in the mountain, those I've learned in the textbook. I would hear frog croaking, cicadas humming, and see little squirrels running on the tree. I would never experience those in the city.

I have to admit that hiking is a good exercise. My hip and bally are getting fat. Hiking did help to keep them under control. Every time, after walking a long distance, I would get sweat, my heart beak would get faster. My breath would get stronger. I actually felt more energetic and the feeling was not so bad. The view from the mountain was good. It was pleasant to see blue sky and clear clouds with little pollution. I would forget my computer game and the cartoon TV program. I also like the Ten-Bu-Lar on the mountain.

Do I like hiking? I am not that certain. I don't like getting up early, but I enjoy the relax feeling and the scenery on the road. Anyhow, I do carry some happy memory for sure.

So do I like hiking? I guess I do. Somehow, I've got the feeling that happiness doesn't have to be a dedicate trip to some famous place. Simply walk around in a nearby area can be fun too.

That's all my presentation today. Thank you for your listening. I will try to answer your questions.

- End -
