20131012, Minutes, by Nathan Gee

Dear Taichung Happiers:
Playing sports is beneficial to all of us. I am glad that we have 9 members joining our gathering in 10/12 to discuss the benefit of playing sports.

We are happy that we have a new member Daisy in this week. She has medicine background. Thanks to Daisy for sharing experience in hospital and health issue. An old friend Justin who disappears one year also come back to join our gathering. It is happy to see old member coming back.

Playing sports and exercise not only increase our strength of body, but also promote out mental ability. Each member talked about their experience in sports and exercise. Kevin said that he liked jogging and workout in the gym. John said that he preferred walking because of his 3-high condition – high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood oil. After his long-time video game playing and less exercise, he had decided to spend more time in exercise for health and preventing cardiovascular disease. Justin also liked jogging to release his pressure. Micro said that he enjoyed climbing mountain and running. He also likes meditation that brings him free thinking and relief of pressure. Daisy said that she had played tennis, volleyball and had gone swimming in the past. She likes growing plants nowadays, and the plants are loyal to her. She feels she can communicate with these plants. Jasmine told us that she liked dance and had been dancing for over ten years. She are still meeting her teacher each week for learning choreography. She enjoys the beauty and fun of choreography. Tzong pointed out that exercise makes the blood to carry more oxygen to your body and generates serotonin and endophin in your brain. That is why exercise is good for your body and in the meantime brings you the feelings of pleasure. He also talked about that some sports are only suitable for some kind of people. For example, playing basketball is too dangerous for aged people. He used to play basketball, but he goes jogging nowadays.

More than one member talked about knee injury. Sports like basketball or jogging especially need to be careful to protect our knees. Except for warm-up, Tzong said that increasing the strength of your leg muscle is also a good method. He took Lebron James as an example that he is less injured than previous NBA stars because of massive workout on his muscle.

Thanks to everyone for coming to our gathering in 10/12 and enthusiasticly joining our discussion.

Dear Taichung Happiers,

Hardly do people finish a sports topic without attracting more and more conversation followers. See? It not only took us by surprise but also encouraged us greatly that our long-missing member Justin joined us again last weekend. Thanks to our host, Nathan, for his kind efforts. Thanks to all participants for spending your precious Saturday afternoon with us.

It is so hard to buy this Monday’s newspaper; however, we shared the honor and excitement to read the news about 2013 Global Game in Taipei on NBA official website.
http://mi.nba.com/feeds/GlobalGamesNBAComesToTaiwan-572270/photo_3.html This news reminds me of the importance of the will emphasized by the world champion boxer Muhammad Ali: “Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-- a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” And, how did Jeremy Lin re-learn to be himself again and keep his spirits up after feeling crushed by Linsanity fame? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiufhUuayqo (Don’t worry. No religion.)

When we shared our sports experiences, Happiers’ eyes were shining with confidence. It is the beauty of playing sports, isn’t it? Bill Shankly, one of football's greatest managers, insisted: "A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that you are." Yes, and you need practice to make sure you are the best. My favorite teacher could not believe practice can make perfect; instead, he always encouraged us: “Perfect practice makes perfect.” Now, I have to leave all of you with these ideas, because it’s time for me to play!

Best Wishes,
Jasmine
