I have a question as follows:

1)過去完成式:
He had written a letter when I came.
2)過去完成進行式:
He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.

->為什麼用by the time? (什麼意思?)我發現有些句子用時間時常加介係詞by,why? such as , by tomorrow, by May(月份)?

例句2)我可以改成He had been writing a letter for two hours when I came.嗎?或He had been writing a letter for two hours until I came?

1. by+ 時間 = 在某個時間之前
by the time I came = 在我到達之前

2. 我可以改成He had been writing a letter for two hours when I came.嗎?

可以，雖然意思有些許不同，但情境相同。

3. He had been writing a letter for two hours until I came?

不可以。因為until其實含有"改變現狀"的意思，如果你用until，表示" he stopped writing a letter when I came." 但原來的句子並沒有這個額外的意思。

完成式(現在完成式/過去完成式/未來完成式),我大概沒問題..

其中未來完成式:我比較容易搞不清楚..such as folloes:

He will have written a letter before I come.(it's ok)
在我來之前,他將會把信寫好..

但若與未來完成進行式與過去完成進行式比較下:該句怎翻譯?
He will have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.
在我到達之前,他即將完成兩個小時的寫信.對否?
He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.
在我到達之前,他已經寫兩小時的信了對否?

若按這樣說法1. by+ 時間 = 在某個時間之前 by the time I came = 在我到達之前

是否before I come = by the time I come 意思ㄧ樣的呢?若是 那就可以寫成:
He will have been writing a letter for two hours before I come.
He had been writing a letter for two hours before I came.

在我到達之前,他即將完成兩個小時的寫信.對否?

在我到達之前，他應該已經寫信寫了兩小時了。 (原文並沒有"即將完成的意思"，也許寫完整封信需要十個小時!)

未來完成式的用法就是用在未來的某一個點，譬如你預計這個星期六下午兩點半要來Happy English Club,而我這個星期六中午12:30開始寫信，這句話就可以用在你跟第三個人講述我們這個星期六會發生的情況。強調未來某個時間點(你來的時候)，我應該已經寫信兩小時了，而且還正在寫。(我的中文翻譯加上"應該"，是因為未來發生的事都屬於推斷。)




2. He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.
在我到達之前,他已經寫兩小時的信了

對!這件事情已經發生了，這個翻譯沒有錯~


3. 若按這樣說法1. by+ 時間 = 在某個時間之前 by the time I came = 在我到達之前

是否before I come = by the time I come 意思ㄧ樣的呢?若是 那就可以寫成:
He will have been writing a letter for two hours before I come.
He had been writing a letter for two hours before I came.

1. He will have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.
在我到達之前，他應該已經寫信寫了兩小時了(表未來完成進行式)
2. He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.
在我到達之前,他已經寫兩小時的信了 (表過去完成式進行式)

1.& 2.描述是否均尚未完成意思,無論過去或未來,因都屬於進行式故皆可能需要更多時間呢?

另外例句1)是否可以改寫為should 也是恰當的呢?因屬推斷!
He should have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.
or He is going to have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.

例句2)He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.
在我到達之前，他已經寫信寫了兩小時了(表過去已經完成某程度,但其實未完成!!故持續中..)

1.& 2.描述是否均尚未完成意思,無論過去或未來,因都屬於進行式故皆可能需要更多時間呢?

例句1)是否可以改寫為should 也是恰當的呢?因屬推斷!

Should 並沒有推斷的意思，但中文的"應該吧!"有推斷的意思，我猜你應該是直接翻過來吧，but they are different. 我自己的認知是，只要是未來的東西，都只能說是推斷，因為還沒發生。

(C)

He should have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.
He is going to have been writing a letter for two hours by the time I come.
後面那句是比較正確的

(D)
He had been writing a letter for two hours by the time I came.
在我到達之前，他已經寫信寫了兩小時了(表過去已經完成某程度,但其實未完成!!故持續中..)

沒錯，但當我們用到進行式的時候，絕對是強調他正在寫，因為他也有可能停下來去上廁所，但只要用到進行式，就一定有強調的意味。如果不強調正在寫的話，這個句子改成簡單的過去完成式，意思也相同。


(E)
