Questions for Discussion:
1. This international survey points out that in the industrialized world, 11.1% of directors are female and 63% of companies have at least one female board member. Also, in emerging markets, there are 7.2% female directors and 44.3% of companies have at least one female board member. Please comment on this phenomenon.
2. This article lists some reasons why women are under represented, such as: issues of maintaining work life balance(20%), male dominated culture and poorer networking opportunities(17%), maternity issue (12%), traditional bias (9%), lack of opportunities (7%), and the tendency that men recruit men(7%). Do you agree with these mentioned points?
3. The author gives reasons for the importance of having female leaders: to improve company performance and communication ; to introduce more participation and transparency; to obtain better evaluation in board performance. Please share your thoughts with us.
4. Do you agree with the quota of female representation in each system? Are there any disadvantages of quotas?
