20131130, Minutes, by Jane

Minutes of 11/30 hosting on the topic “Why are so many women getting later in life – or not at all—and are there consequences”?

Basically, this topic is better for women to discuss but for men. Therefore, before the meeting I was a bit worried about the female turnout, which might decide the result of discussion in this time. However, I had to say I was lucky to have more than a dozen gentlemen and ladies to say from their heart. Thank you, my guys! Especially for Jeffery, who just returned from his very tight and busy business travel.
In our group, we had Jeffery, junior Jane (first comer), Harris, Joe, Justin, Linda (first comer), Jasmine, Troy and me (senior Jane). We think the women in the age of between 25 to 30 are most eligible to get married due to the concern of fertility. As for men, 30 to 35, concerning some financial factors: a stable income, job and even a house. Jeffery strongly recommended that men should have a house before thinking of proposal because according to his experience, nowadays girls, especially in mainland China, would ask her suitor for owning a house. I think, owning a house in Taiwan is also a more and more difficult thing for a young man or even a young family.
The first comer, junior Jane has her opinion about getting married. Although in her late 20s, she still doesn’t see getting married as her priority and even being single for life isn’t an impossible choice, making our old good man, Jeffery, seemed beginning worried about her.
As for question 4, I suggest girls can make friends and build up relationship with boys on campus but for looking a husband, it will be better to wait until becoming a fully form adult because I have heard lots of women married young complained and wish if they would have waited to be more mature to get married and have children. There would have been less mistakes and regrets!
At last, I said I would suggest my daughter should think twice if she had to live under the same roof with her parents-in-law after getting married. The best way for it is to live nearby, allowing they can help and look after each other. However, most of time things cannot go smoothly as we expect. We, the generation of baby boomer, had better prepare for our life in old age because I don’t think our younger generation, especially for the daughters-in-law will be happy to look after us. No wonder, Jasmine’s nursing home business is so prospering!
Thank you, my guys, for making me a good day! I always enjoy hearing opinions from you.

Dear Taichung Happiers,

In case you can’t wait any longer, good news first: ICRT Singles’ Party!
http://www.icrt.com.tw/app/single/ Truly, if you need it, just take this opportunity. Don’t shy away. And then always bear this in mind: Stephen Kendrick said in his award-winning book, The Love Dare (2008), “The only way love can last a lifetime is if it's unconditional. The truth is this: love is not determined by the one being loved but rather by the one choosing to love.”

The following essay was not composed by William Shakespeare, yet, it is worthy of everybody’s efforts to execute it.

"The Art of Marriage"
by Wilferd A. Peterson (short version)

A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage the little things are the big things...
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once each day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation and
demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is not only marrying the right partner...
It is being the right partner.

Find the apple of your eyes, and sooner or later you will need this song. Ladies and gentlemen, why not have a rehearsal first? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq_2xxyUeJg “Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah…………….”

Wish all Happiers happy ever after. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah!

Best Wishes,
Jasmine
