Dear Taichung Happiers,

Is time travel only “a matter of time”? How will it affect other dimensions of our lives? The "dean of science fiction writers" Robert A. Heinlein (July 7, 1907 – May 8, 1988) noted: "Nothing could go wrong because nothing had...I meant ‘nothing would.’ No - Then I quit trying to phrase it, realizing that if time travel ever became widespread, English grammar was going to have to add a whole new set of tenses to describe reflexive situations - conjugations that would make the French literary tenses and the Latin historical tenses look simple." Well, we don’t worry about the tenses for Chinese grammar, yet Professor Yu did have a big question.

余光中--【小小天問】

不知道時間是火焰或漩渦
只知道它從指隙間流走
留下一隻空空的手
老的握不成一把拳頭
只知道額頭它燒了又燒
年輕的激情燙得人心焦
焦掉的心只剩下一堆灰
為了有一隻雛鳳要飛
出去,顫顫的翅膀向自由
不知道永恆是烈火或洪水
或是不燃燒也不迴流

Our host Troy is a brilliant medical student, and, now, he is contributing an equally brilliant topic: Is time travel possible, and is there any chance that it will ever take place? Some scientists do believe time travel is not impossible and it is inevitable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au5i1Bw725o On the other hand, I am also immersed in the humanity implications of time travel. What ignites people’s passion to travel backward in time or forward to the future? Can issuing the time travel licenses balance the positive and negative consequences? What are the ethical codes of time travel? How can we know we are ready for the ethical codes of time travel?

Can time travel truly remind us of ourselves? (If so, which self?) How about this thread-- "This is what I say: I've got good news and bad news. The good news is, you don't have to worry, you can't change the past. The bad news is, you don't have to worry, no matter how hard you try, you can't change the past. The universe just doesn't put up with that. We aren't important enough. No one is. Even in our own lives. We're not strong enough, willful enough, skilled enough in chronodiegetic manipulation to be able to just accidentally change the entire course of anything, even ourselves" (Charles Yu, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe)? My dear friends, what would you say? Yes or no? If we ride the time machine, which history is “history”? Can the transition be beautifully weaved into multiple universes? What would the magic carpet say about the whole new world(s)?
