Questions:
A. Some people blamed Carter for the fact that he did not help the toddler and leave her in such a weak condition to continue the march by herself towards the UN plane where her parents were.
Meanwhile, according to the articles, “Journalists in Sudan were told not to touch the famine victims, because of the risk of transmitting disease.”
Do you think Carter should take into consideration about the warning, do not touch the famine victims or he should pick up the toddler and bring her to a safe place (UN plane) where her parents were? Why?
B. Carter was blamed for the fact that he was taking the picture instead of chasing the vulture immediately away, but also blamed for the fact that he did not help the girl afterwards and leave her in such a weak condition to continue the march by herself towards the UN plane where her parents were.
Do you think the blame put on Carter is reasonable? Do you think Carter did all what he could to the toddler? Or you think he could do more?
C. Consumed with the violence he’d witnessed, and haunted by the questions as to the little girl’s fate, Carter committed suicide after he won the Pulitzer Prize.
If you were Carter, were you ending your life in the same way? Why or why not?
D. Do you have to deal with a moral dilemma at your job? What’s the biggest moral dilemma you have ever faced?
