Dear Taichung Happiers,

“A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.
‘Why?’ asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife annual and tosses it over his shoulder.
‘I'm a panda,’ he says, at the door. ‘Look it up.’
The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.
Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.” (a story from the book Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation, written by Lynne Truss) Just because we are not English majors, it doesn’t mean that we can ignore the strange fate of punctuation. “Let’s eat Grandma!” or “Let’s eat, Grandma!”? Ladies and gentlemen, no worries! Welcome to join this weekend’s discussion hosted by Micro--How to Learn English.

Sit down and write the top 10 list of your all time favorite English songs. Why? For we, second language learners, can benefit greatly by singing along with foreign songs.
http://zh.scribd.com/doc/48535797/Using-Music-to-Enhance-Second-Language-Acquisition-From-Theory-to-Practice And, speaking of learning English, how can we miss the fun of learning tongue twisters? Don’t stop, until you feel the thrill more exciting than Ice Bucket Challenge. Ready? Go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJhURDNPfH4

Slow down and try your best to do a close reading. Why? For American journalist Flora Lewis (29 July 1922—June 2, 2002) pointed out “Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.” However, it is not that we lack patience; it is that the culture barriers we encounter while doing a close reading trouble us the most. To overcome this obstacle, I wholeheartedly endorse the radio program “A Way with Words”, which perfectly blends endless language learning fun with knowledge of history and culture. http://www.waywordradio.org/

Spend some time on studying a poem per week. Why? For it can take us one step closer to the Literature Neverland.

Beginning my studies
By Walt Whitman (May 31, 1819 – March 26, 1892)

Beginning my studies the first step pleas’d me so much,
The mere fact of consciousness, these forms, the power of motion,
The least insect or animal, the senses, eyesight, love,
The first step I say awed me and pleas’d me so much,
I have hardly gone and hardly wish’d to go any farther,
But stop and loiter all the time to sing it in ecstatic songs.

Michelangelo (6 March 1475 – 18 February 1564), an Italian poet and the greatest living artist in his lifetime, displayed his genuine humility: “If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.” So, dear friends, how to learn English?

All right, if you love English, you should love English for one thousand more years.
