Dear Taichung Happiers,

“I was raised as an only child, which really annoyed my sister.” (Will Marsh, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012)

Check out this video and tell us how you will conclude the “7 billion world population” scenario.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc4HxPxNrZ0 Well, I prefer this quote as a match: “You are not stuck in traffic. You ARE traffic.” Guess where this quote comes from. Anyone?

Athelstan Frederick Spilhaus (November 25, 1911 – March 30, 1998), a South African-American geophysicist, confidently claimed “When we can treat all existing persons as human, it will be time enough to think about having more.” If so, is it about time to have more?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI_KWwlHjmQ How can the population trend affect the economy? Come join our conversation with host Allen.

American writer Isaac Marion views the population “growth” from a different perspective. “It’s not about keeping up the population; it’s about passing on who we are and what we've learned, so things keep going. So we don’t just end.” And it is astonishingly beautiful that a mother can transform herself into a better soul while passing on her very own traits to her child!

A Mother's Love for Her Child
By Lee Degnan

You are my child,
given to me by some miracle
that I cannot comprehend
I was worthy of.
You've come and blessed my life.

You are my world.
Whatever I've known as my own
now shared willingly
and freely with you.
You've come and opened my heart.
[……….]
You are my love, unconditional
whether it is given or received
and have given me complete
and utter trust in your life.
You've come and given me ambition.

For all these things
You have given me,
I have become a better soul
For this I do promise you
my love forever,
and ever to become more like you.

Why are low birthrates and aging population creating the collective anxiety over economic development? Actually, we had a memorable discussion on aging population problem which was hosted by Ben Liao. By the way, for Happiers’ information, Ben is currently facing the challenge of exams. Let’s wish him luck. Enjoy the challenge, Ben!

How to find the balance leading to enhance economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social well-being? However big or small the family or society is, are we willing to share what, scarce or sufficient, we have? We are traffic, and love is the only timeless magic.
