Dear Taichung Happiers,

A tourist asks a man in uniform, "Are you a policeman?"
"No, I am an undercover detective."
"So why are you in uniform?"
"Today is my day off."

“We are what we wear” or “we wear what we are’? What does clothing mean to you? How has clothing affected your self-perceptions and behavior? Can uniform state the identity of your school or company clearly and firmly? Join us to react to the implications in this topic chosen by Joey and listen carefully to each other’s stories and thoughts.

English historian Thomas Fuller (1608 – 16 August 1661) asserted “Good clothes open all doors.” So, how can your school uniform or company uniform affect the behavior of others, e.g. your customers? Steve Jobs didn’t have to wear uniform; somehow, he did wear his “uniform” every day. Why? What do you think of those celebrities who use their trademark outfits to build personal brand identity?

While some researches illustrating how uniforms can communicate silently, others also raise doubts about whether uniforms truly kill individuality. http://www.academia.edu/4044048/The_Uniform_As_Material_As_Symbol_As_Negotiated_Object Dwight D Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969), the 34th President of the United States, sharply yet sincerely stated: “When you put on a uniform, there are certain inhibitions that you accept.” Besides, is there any cognition difference in this kind of acceptance between collectivistic and individualistic cultures?

If you don’t prefer uniform, what kind of individual styles will you pursuit? What do you possess is much more valuable than the clothes of heaven? With a great economy of words, Irish poet W. B. Yeats humbly and beautifully demonstrated his answer.

He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven
By William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939)

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

What can your favorite uniform remind you of? Welcome to bring your favorite uniform to the gathering. Oh, yes, a bunny-ear uniform—how’s that?
