Questions:
1. In the year 2000, PC was the only one device that can access the internet. In the year 2010, we had PC, tablets, video game consoles, and smart TVs that can connect the cloud. In the year 2020, we will have more than 10 devices connected to each other, and that is what we call the age of “internet of things”. In your own words, what is “Internet of Things”? How can IOT change the way we work and live? And how do you react to the age of IOT?

2. In the year 2000, we accessed the internet only through PC which is one-to-one platform. In the year 2010, we accessed the internet by using PC, tablets and smart phones. That is one-to-many user experience. In the year 2020, our appliances and smart devices will connect to each other and build many-to-many connection. That will make our lives much easier and more comfortable. In the age of IOT, smart devices can generate an astronomical number about you, and each individual will surrender himself/herself to big data. These data will know more about you than your mother does. How can you take advantage of those data? Are you afraid of privacy and security issues of the age of IOT?

3. Information technology has evolved from Internet into “Internet of Things”, and then into “Internet of Everything”. Also our smart devices have evolved from smart phones into “smart homes”, and then into “smart cities”. In your imagination, what will future life be like? Can you live in a world without a smart phone or internet? What is your minimum requirement for technology devices?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

What will your Grandma say about the internet refrigerator?

We take jokes seriously when it comes to connected-home devices, such as internet refrigerator, internet toaster, and smart chopsticks. Moreover, smart city is no joke at all. Our host Kevin has memorably led us to grasp the concepts of “Google”, “Cloud”, and “Big Data”. And here comes Kevin’s tech series episode 4--ladies and gentlemen, Internet of Things (IoT)!

As a computer consultant for the Harden Group LLC, Bob Harden simply put his own interpretation on IoT: “……purchasing 10-20 different services from 10-20 different vendors using 10-20 different apps with 10-20 different user interfaces. If that’s the way IoT goes, it will be a long tough slog to Nirvana.” Yes, these silent communications from some invisible objects will continuously come to us. So, how on earth can this information technology evolution affect our lives and work? Let’s see how this speech can detail this transformation of everything.

IoT can influence every domain: consumer, enterprise, public and infrastructure. With opportunities and challenges, IOT can also be a solution for people solving urbanization problems. http://poptech.org/popcasts/anthony_townsend_smart_cities However, Chris Murphy, the editor of Information Week, revealed the noteworthy point. “One of the myths about the Internet of Things is that companies have all the data they need, but their real challenge is making sense of it. In reality, the cost of collecting some kinds of data remains too high, the quality of the data isn’t always good enough, and it remains difficult to integrate multiple data sources.”

Since IoT has a profound effect on both physical and digital worlds, it has been fun and intriguing to reflect on the transformational character of life and work.
Days of Future Dwell
By Samuel Amadon

A dance professor around
her white house, which
windowed, countered,
surfaced with keys, bags,

a listing a broker found
he was proud to sell.
As grass is covered
with grass that’s mown,

why not be happy again
to find your schedule in
your hand, and all things
well. The squirrels leapt

off the branch that fell.
The technical part with
all the pieces lining up,
or already there, at work:

a something to do with
why I pick the tack
from the floor, why I
finger it like a shell. Say

the songs get longer and
the days—all of it—you
can hear it all coming,
if you’ve tied to it a bell.

This is such a fascinating topic which is full of futuristic points of view. And, the most exciting news is: Kevin will present this topic to compete in our National Speech Contest. We wish you luck, Kevin!

Hopefully, the Internet of Everything will charm your Grandma endlessly. Oh, by the way, once she falls in love with her internet kitchen devices, what will automatically post your Grandma’s dinner picture on our Fb in real time? Oh, IoT, the definition of “obsessive compulsive crazy love”.
