2. What’s the difference between a white lie and a real lie? Will you accept each of them?

3. Why do you think people lie? Studies have shown that people can identify lies only about 50 percent of the time. Can you find some clues when people lie to you?

4. Do you think people will develop a bad habit when they usually lie? Do you feel comfortable when people lie to you?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

Riddle: You stand at a fork in the road. Next to each of the two forks, there stands a guard. You know the following things: First that one path leads to paradise, the other leads to Death. You cannot distinguish between the two paths. You also know that one of the two guards always tells the truth and the other always lies. You have permission to ask one guard one question to discover which path leads to paradise. What one question would you ask to guarantee you take the path to paradise?

Hey, no worries, if you haven’t had the answer yet. Let’s see how Nicole Kidman played “Box of Lies” first.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B47Vtsw10eg What we can’t wait for is having this exciting experience: our humorous host Howard, a former government officer detecting criminal suspects' deception, will lead an interesting and inspiring discussion of “Why do People Lie?” Welcome to join us to learn more from Howard.

Yup, we should confess, at least, to bringing food to Mos from time to time. American author Stephen King has planted an agent in our minds. “There were people who lied for gain, people who lied from pain, people who lied simply because the concept of telling the truth was utterly alien to them . . . and then there were people who lied because they were waiting for it to be time to tell the truth.” Hummmmm…… people lie, but not equally? Here comes the magic mirror. Enjoy!

An important insight into honesty was provided by American lawyer and religious leader James E. Faust (July 31, 1920 – August 10, 2007). “Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving.” Besides, having spoken at some of the world’s most distinguished companies, such as Google, IBM, and Time Warner, American author Dan Schawbel asserted that honesty is the most respected characteristic of leaders. http://www.forbes.com/sites/danschawbel/2014/10/29/the-top-10-workplace-trends-for-2015/

On lying, Mark Twain was so Mark Twain. “The wise thing is for us diligently to train ourselves to lie thoughtfully, judiciously; to lie with a good object, and not an evil one; to lie for others' advantage, and not our own; to lie healingly, charitably, humanely, not cruelly, hurtfully, maliciously; to lie gracefully and graciously, not awkwardly and clumsily……………..” What? Why? Well, in some extreme contexts, it is not about right-or-wrong; it is all about lie-or-die. The heart-stirring film “The Good Lie” tells a true story about how an unselfish lie healed these lost boys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89n-K_6bG_A

Tell All The Truth but Tell it Slant (by Emily Dickinson)

Tell all the truth but tell it slant,
Success in circuit lies,
Too bright for our infirm delight
The truth's superb surprise;

As lightning to the children eased
With explanation kind,
The truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind.

To lie, or not to lie? In borderline cases, the value cannot be seen until the end.
