Marshmallow…Yet!”(別急著吃棉花糖!!) says: “ resist not eating immediately for getting more”? What’s your strategy to overcome the temptation?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

While sitting at your desk, make clockwise circles with your right foot. While doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand.

If you are wondering when you will finish the above “self-control” exercise, please consult your yoga teacher about more meditation. No worries--it is our warm-up. Greek philosopher Aristotle wonderfully put: “What lies in our power to do, lies in our power not to do.” Resisting temptation is the self-control that our host Vicki is inviting Happiers to have a perspective on.

Here comes again the great metaphor user I introduced last week--Inspirational Writer Israelmore Ayivor--“Self-control is a divided battle in one body. The "self" produces desires that "you" must battle with and kick off. Two wrestlers in one body. Just imagine. It's difficult, though rewarding!” So, how fiercely do the wrestlers fight in your body? Take a simple quiz:
http://www.youthink.com/quiz.cfm?obj_id=80878 Why are short-term pains necessary for long-term gains? How do you imagine yourself 10 or 20 years from now? Let the film James White stir your imagination. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1aVC6LJ3uc

What has a crucial turning point in your life inspired you? Close your eyes and reflect harder. Either your ability or your personality contributed the turning point, it must have involved the process of self-control. It takes practice to resist the persuasive appeals and research result found by Dr. Edward Burkley echoes Leonardo da Vinci’s thought that it is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end. http://www.researchgate.net/publication/5578926_The_Role_of_Self-Control_in_Resistance_to_Persuasion Also, Professor Roy Baumeister discovered that self-control works like muscle--it gets tired after exertion. Fortunately, research findings reassure us that regular exercise can make the muscle of self-control stronger, and its strength in one field can create more strength in everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0jDxFZTJVY&app=desktop

"When I Am Master of My Soul” (by Gertrude Tooley Buckingham)

May I ever practice self-control,
May I learn to be patient and kind;
May I meet my problems with wisdom;
If I do, I will have peace of mind.
May I keep my temper every day;
May I be honest and fair and brave;
May calmness cover me, as a cloak,
That my own self-respect I may save.
When I give way to anger and fear,
And when to passions I am a slave,
I am harming my body and soul
That my God, in His love, to me gave.

How much control of your own future do you think you have? Our destiny is shaped by our character, not our capability. What are some of the barriers keeping you from the responsibility for your actions and attitudes? How to focus on your most important thing to break through the roadblocks? The Marshmallow of Mindfulness, anyone?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JzSUS8-ls8 And American author Gretchen Rubin endorsed a mirror. Yes, a mirror mirror, no magic mirror. https://gretchenrubin.com/happiness_project/2013/01/why-a-mirror-can-make-you-behave-better-and-5-more-tips-for-boosting-self-control/

Compassion (including Self-Compassion) is the most effective agent for self-control. Empathy draws the bright-line for humanity. Here is a beautiful forewarning from American activist and author Bryant McGill --“When we try to control, we become controlled; when we release, we become free.” Now, relax, please. Let us exercise to this “I Can Calm” book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMvrK_8alOE Calm with us every weekend. Thanks!!!
