Questions:

1. In the first article, the Top 1 Tip is to tell stories you like. It’s because stories which touch the tellers can also touch their audience. Nevertheless, there are many types of stories, what do you like most? A romantic love story, a sketch of realistic daily lives, a mystery with suspense and climax, or something else? Why do you appreciate this kind of story? Can you give us some examples?

2. People like to listen to stories. Some want to be inspired; others simply listen for joy. Do you like “The Shoes”? What does the teller try to convey through the story? Have you ever been impressively inspired by any story (stories)? What and how?

3. Storytelling is “the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today.” (a quote from Robert McKee) However, it’s never easy to express a story. In a storytelling experience, making good description plays an important role. We’ll start with a riddle telling. Please pick an object as the answer to your riddle, and describe it as lively as possible to your audience.

4. “To be a person is to have a story to tell.” (a quote from Isak Dinesen) Now, time for you to share us a story you like. Make some preparation in advance, try to apply the above tips, and finish your storytelling within 10 minutes. Then ask your audience to give you some feedback.

Dear Taichung Happiers,

Stories have no office hours.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QdFALxENgQ&spfreload=5

What is a story? A story can be an account of what happened to somebody or of how something happened. A story can be a description of events and people that the writer or speaker has invented in order to entertain people. As the ancient proverb goes, “Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in heart forever.” According to research results, the combination of data and storytelling in class is 22 times easier for students to remember the content than just showing and analyzing the data. In addition, Award-winning writer Patrick Rothfuss believes stories distinguish people more precisely than ID card or Facial Recognition. “It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.” Truly, our dazzling passion for stories is ungovernable--a stunning storytelling is like a splendid summer evening calming our nettled nerves--because of the mixture of investigation and expectation, we are bewitched by the magic of stories, time and time again. Tell me, please, what smell of story books, what voice of storytelling, can transport you to your Childhood Wonderland? The childhood memory of diving deeply into the indulgence of stories always has a special place in my heart. Storytellers are able to make the stories come to life in our minds; storytellers have the disquieting sense that they can see inside our souls. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to bring your dreams and hopes to join our host Emily Lee in journeying to the curious castle of storytelling!

De-story. Destroy. “Think about the word destroy. Do you know what it is? De-story. Destroy. Destory.” Well, how about a destroying story, like “Passengers, this isn’t your captain speaking”? A compelling story, well told, grabs hearts and minds. De-story. Destroy. Stories are lifesavers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVTBuNF-VY8 Where there is meaning, there is the magic power. Stories are meaningful because they are memorable, impactful, and connectional. Evidently, stories toughen us up to travel a considerable distance down memory lane, arriving at a place that makes us highly appreciative. The childhood memories we bury under the sea of stories are the ones that never stop haunting us. Meet these famous storytellers from around the world. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatpicturegalleries/9769881/Famous-storytellers.html Stories keep our thoughts and emotions from running in circles. Stories save us from traps and give us the wisdom and the strength to choose the direction to move forward to. Every minute of listening increases the temperature of our tenderness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj-hdQMa3uA Storytellers never disappear—they will return to a hidden time; every minute of storytelling hasn’t yet passed; there is always a reason for a storyteller to go on living—every storyteller will rediscover the journey he/she has never left. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFocDpvTZdw&t=2s

Fiction and non-fiction are both about stories. “The Gingerbread House, The Giant Pumpkin House, The Castle on Top of the Beanstalk, and the Famous Brick House Owned by the Smart Little Pig…” “That’s why Mother Goose stopped writing stories and became a real estate agent.” Every non-fiction work tells a story about culture or conception. A story can be an event in a book, film, play, etc.; a story can also be a report in a newspaper, magazine or news broadcast. A story is the countless complexity of words, images, and feelings, recollected to show us the forgotten parts of ourselves. Fiction and non-fiction are both about stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ili2x0H-zpU When the reality is too complicated, we catch it through other forms, including films. American filmmaker Steven Spielberg shows a bolder sign. “The most amazing thing for me is that every single person who sees a movie, not necessarily one of my movies, brings a whole set of unique experiences, but through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to hopefully laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time.” Amazing, because scientists state that everyone can only reach stories as far as what is already sketched in their souls. All right, why don’t we have something about storytelling from a point of view of a film producer? https://vimeo.com/86299471 Also, see if the universe is made of stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uXNG_LbTlA Music, is storytelling as well—although the equation and experience are indescribable—every note itself is a story. Every note evokes powerful emotions; every composition translates a privately interpreted journey. When people breathe life into the music, they feel the connection between their souls and the audience’s souls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcpc8VDsv3c

From “The Awakening” (by Joseph Martin)

I dreamed a dream, a silent dream.
Of a land so filled with pride
That ev'ry song,
Both weak and strong,
Withered and died.
I dreamed a dream.
No alleluia, not one hosanna, no song of love, no lullaby.
And no choir sang to change the world.
No pipers played; no dancers twirled.
I dreamed a dream, a silent dream.
Silent. Silent....
Awake! Awake! Awake! Awake!
Soli Deo Gloria! Awake! Awake!
Awake! Awake, my soul, and sing!
The time for praise has come.

“The basic rule of storytelling is 'show, don't tell.'”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKE3wcev-9c Storytelling is a great gift. Storytellers know how to communicate, how to make people feel and see, and believe. What kind of stories can open their readers’ /audiences’ hearts and induce more echoes? How can storytelling help us to help ourselves? Have you ever experienced the emotional connections with storytelling and imagined that immortality is possible? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj4sYkWVrfE What is the difference between a storytelling and a PowerPoint presentation? There are as many ways to tell a story as there are stories to tell. If you can understand your audience better, what message will you tailor for your audience? When do you know you are an irresistible storyteller? When you and your audience exchange glances in a language that fills everyone with satisfaction and inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgHdKBushFI The best storytellers can lift people, so that the audiences are no longer simply standers-by of the stories—but contributors, co-authors/co-speakers in the world the tellers crave to create. Speaking of this, are Steve Jobs’ words ringing in your ears? “The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller. The storyteller sets the vision, values and agenda of an entire generation that is to come.” Sure enough, storytelling is all about the audience, not the storyteller. Above all, give the audience the recognition—that’s what they really need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hDWl9ysmmo

Stories have no office hours, only open doors inviting us to enter. A splendid storytelling is the most elegant form of art. Their narratives are as divinely designed as architecture; their language, as correctly constructed as engineering. A striking story is not a single idea; a striking story is thousands of ideas outstandingly orchestrated in concert. Our contact with stories creates a human connection. The connection is invisible, yet, vital. The connection is about hope. The connection is about love. The connection contains empathy. Storytellers never disappear, even when the stage looks empty, when the music fading into the sky, and when the light reluctantly whispering something. At the right time, they fly into their own story ... The only thing that matters is the fancy and the faith that have been imprinted in our minds. In fact, in fact, in fact, the stage will never be empty, the music and light never fade! As long as everyone, every storyteller, creates a more meaningful life, using time and intents more wisely. “The stories we tell literally make the world. If you want to change the world, you need to change your story. This truth applies both to individuals and institutions." Yes. Stories have brightened every color. Stories have no office hours, only open doors inviting us to enter. Join us. Thanks!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xISX_kvNyBk
