Dear Taichung Happiers,

Whenever we fly, fear and love descend on us surprisingly and strikingly.

It’s everyone’s birthright to travel. Besides, here comes summer! Summer! What is another name of summer but travel? Other than your home town, where is your favorite summer BBQ destination? What is your dream land like? In what do you have an innate interest? Do you have the curiosity about living in a new city for one or two years for sugar, spice, and everything nice? Research results have shown the physical and mental benefits from traveling. What does it require to achieve your travel bucket list, except for time and money? We need to adventure more, adapt more, accept more, and appreciate more, to open the mind, to connect with more cultures, to have a truly interesting, intriguing, and engaging life. There is an enormous encouragement from American writer, humorist, and entrepreneur Mark Twain (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” So, what are we waiting for? Everyone needs an obsession. We have to exert ourselves to see this world. Has your passion for travel survived? For the “yes”, everyone should be grateful. The only thing we have to pack is a learning mindset. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to join our host Eric Cheng in sharing travel experiences that have challenged, changed, and cultivated you.

Every destination is home. “How can you tell elephants love to travel?” “They are always packing their trunk!” In daily life, we keep expecting certainty, so that, more often than not, we are imprisoned by habit, by profession, and by our beliefs. In every travel destination, the observation of our behaviors and the perspectives we develop in different contexts and cultures grant us the feeling of connection and belonging. Travel! Every destination is home. Home is where we are from; home is where we are wanted; home is where we feel connection and belonging.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpS0PNs3kJg Albert Camus (November 7, 1913–January 4, 1960), the Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature, illustrated his insight to illuminate our path. “What gives value to travel is fear. It breaks down a kind of inner structure we have…we restore to every being and every object its miraculous value…When we are aware of every gift, the contradictory intoxications we can enjoy (including that of lucidity) are indescribable.” Looking back, have you had the moment you told yourself that this destination is your destiny? Or, are you eager to visit the library Harry Potter wanted? Every library is a well hidden world—yet very inviting—learning what to look for and how to look is the key. https://matadornetwork.com/read/coolest-libraries-world/ (feed your carry-on luggage with this book, The Innocents Abroad https://www.gutenberg.org/files/3176/3176-h/3176-h.htm#p028 ) Moreover, what do you perceive the connection between human beings and places? Do you dream of a destination where there are no mobile phones, where mornings are wonderful, where art is endless, images are free, and museums are open 24 hours a day? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfQxeHVID1E With no rules during traveling, every time we travel, we create a language nobody else speaks it. We travel to listen to not only the beauty of the world, but also the fragility of the world. The value of travel is knowing ourselves, being aware of the wider world, and being a better global citizen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd0aAFFjCUo

Every local people is family. “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.” Families are a composite of stories. Traveling teaches us faith and trust. Traveling teaches us to have faith in humanity. Local people disarm us with their warmth, friendliness, and appreciation. The smile on every local people’s face projects hospitality and honesty—we learn to trust our guts. Traveling teaches us faith and trust--faith in something intangible; trust in something immeasurable. Edgar H. Schein, a former professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, reflects that “Most of my important lessons about life have come from recognizing how others from a different culture view things.” Yes, and its echoes are everywhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12sJbTH1TXg Travelers co-create each other and recreate themselves through each journey. Local people make us think of all the cities, all the beaches, and all the summers we have known. Their culture might be foreign, yet its meaning is completely clear in any language. Ultimately, we find the contradiction. Wherever we are, we and the local people are so different, and, also very much the same. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/contests/travel-photo-contest-2019/gallery/week-7-all/1/ Above all, what will we do if we believe what local people believe? The childlike brightness in the eyes, the hide-and-seek curves in corners of the lips, and the mindset behind the lifestyle, are those of a local people sending a signal without words. The message silences us. Every local people is family, inspiring us to give. Give local people our smiles, enthusiasm, and our stories. Only by doing so, we are making this world a better place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt9L1jCKGnE

Every travel memory is second to none. “I would like to spend my whole life traveling, if I could borrow another life to spend at home.”
Traveling has opened up new channels in our memory; traveling is the strongest memory trigger we have. With our faces against the trip photos, we are thrown down the memory lane. Has any trip made you feel like going back into a forgotten memory? What places your visits to mingle seamlessly in memory?
https://www.businessinsider.com/the-best-countries-in-the-world-for-adventure-seekers-2017-3 Albert Einstein assigned us to “free ourselves… by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” Life is all about moments. What will the journey be like, if we can plan less and enjoy and embrace more? While describing an unforgettable travel memory, what words you cannot do without? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0txBFbAuhLY I know, without thinking of food, a travel memory is not a travel memory at all. Absolutely! It takes all of our senses to disassemble and dignify food. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5XtgodI5Ww Traveling is the best way to build lasting memories with family or friends. Personally, it is neither about the famous attractions, nor about those must-do things that I vividly remember. Rather, it’s about the Australian grandma’s long hug, the getting-lost adventure in a small Italian town, and the unexpected cooking experience in Zermatt, Switzerland. We travel, in hope of explanation and discovery to reach the truth, faith, and dreams. Travel. Either you want it or need it, the love and commitment to it will empower everyone and free everyone. Professor Lutz Jäncke at the University of Zurich remarkably reveals how travel memories construct our identity and carve our distinguishing characteristics. https://www.moments-that-last.com/en/article/31

From “New Country” (by Mary Hannay Foott)

An ocean of trees, by the west wind stirred,
Rolled, ever rolled, to the great cliff's base;
And its sound like the noise of waves was heard
'Mid the rocks and the caves of that lonely place.

We recked not of wealth in stream or soil
As we heard on the heights the breezes sing;
We felt no longer our travel-toil;
We feared no more what the years might bring.

Every destination is home. Every local people is family. Every travel memory is second to none. It’s everyone’s birthright to travel; whenever we fly, we are in an elaborate dialogue with ourselves. Travel is like reading--the more time we spend on it, the more satisfying smiles we secure, and the more we assure ourselves that we won’t regret it. We don’t know we don’t know who we are until we travel. Without our pure hearts and beautiful minds as witnesses, nothing we do during traveling is meaningful. Physician, patriot, and humanitarian Benjamin Rush (January 4, 1746 – April 19, 1813) really reminded us that “while you are seeing the world, the world will see you.” Every land realizes. Every river remembers. Our heavy and happy snoring after returning home is the most reassuring sound on earth. If we’d stop to think about any trip, we would realize that our memories, and even our bones, are elevating. Wherever is next, we don’t know, but our hearts know. We trust our hearts. We are ready. Brothers and sisters, what matters most are always our own stories. Join us. Thanks!!!
