Dear Taichung Happiers,
To switch or not to switch? Mutual valuing is the richest rhythm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSacz4GHQjsTo switch or not to switch? Never a question! In our dreams or in our doubts we predict what it must be like pleasure or pressure when we encounter some unfamiliar or unexpected contexts. We have a feeling of uncertainty about everything that has to be changed, and this feeling intensifies when we should cope with a particular context with a particular awareness, seizing a particular support. The free-floating excitement sounds almost Italian, the enchantment of it. The language and the culture, which we are rooted in, sandwich between us as we think, speak, and react. They capture our attention, absolutely. We study the context in silence before speaking in slow, deliberately decided English. However, all the communication would look distant and distorted, if they are overhandled and lose their original energy. Korean-American young adult author David Yoon understands where we fit. “People can code switch to confuse others, express dominance or submission, or disguise themselves.” Language is for organizing an otherwise messy world into identifiable categories. The code is ready and as visible as the clear-cut clouds dancing in the sky. Above all, the two-way Code-Switching is to create a bridge, giving us a boost to hang on to the beauty, the meaning, and the purpose in empathy and intimacy. The call of diversity attracts us and allows the harmony, in and of itself, possessing every soul. If we can listen to the message, make no assumptions, regard everything with an open mind to recognize and read the unanticipated. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to join us in keeping an eye open for code-switching.
Language allows us endless possibilities to complete a circle. https://www.instagram.com/hipdict/?utm_source=ig_embed “Half the world is composed of people who have something to say and can’t, and the other half of people who have nothing to say and keep saying it.” Robert Frost? Did he speak American English with a faint British accent? Language. The apparent culture clues circled every corner where we soak in the charming garden of language learning, and we remember every moment when the splendid syllables move us as if they were a stern sign of acceptance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMPg8Log19U The structure of a language forces us to attend to certain aspects of Here and Now. Once we cross the door of language and the use of symbols remaining more vigorously in our brains, we completely create and live in a bigger, better world. Language allows us endless possibilities to complete a circle. Language holds out a hand to a hand secured from the past. Language is part of a chain that in some way secures us into the future. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... r-language Above all, the castle of context is full of linguistic surprises. The most challenging context we have come across could make us hesitate over every syllable. Despite every context exhibits an enthusiastic smile and an infrequent wink, it’s not impossible that we still say something out of the force of habit. There are more than one thousand ways to express a single thought in English, we still switch every day-- code-switching involves not only our speaking styles, but also our images, presence, and expressions. In short, to switch is to see another soul. https://www.mcser.org/journal/index.php ... /view/5628 Communicate our warmth to others. To switch or not to switch? Let’s learn from the Nature, shall we? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKqXGNNPNaQ Communication. It’s always a pleasure to see Happiers again, ready for a perceptive and productive conversation. Communication can be a magic carpet, flying us high above everything tedious or vicious. Sure enough, the purpose of communication is to empower people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-z6O-S-QY8 Communication is to compose more rooted connections with people. Inevitably, it happens when something seems ludicrous, ridiculous; when words weren’t up to the significance of the moment; when they couldn’t communicate the fundamental or the fear. William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939), an Irish poet and one of the foremost figures of 20th-century literature, illustrated the most considerable and sustainable communication. “Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people.” To enlarge and reinforce every circle is to engage in impassioned communication with further understanding of intimacy. https://medium.com/intercultural-mindse ... 790f649d97 Communication is to feel the freedom in the air. We don’t always have to look. We might just have to listen. A gap could be a haunting sadness. Ideas could tighten our throats and we cannot express them. Nonetheless, code-switching can be a beaut— the first step in a chain reaction of mutual respect. https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... _of_DanishDiversity is the song our journey plays inherently on our hearts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuFCoDqLmY0 Our experience in diversity has given us a confidence in our ability to accommodate, to advance, and to think obliquely. Accommodate—we’d read our Darwin. There is a burst of recognition as we embrace as many possibilities as we can. Can I say that diversity is like spring, because spring is difficult? In spring, we like the light, but we don’t like the light. In fact, it is the imperfections that are creating the play of light; most importantly, summer always comes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_qqRaTd3R4 (Please switch to English subtitles.) When we enter a new culture, encounter a new context, a new environment, facing the people whose psychology is so obscure, we feel like struggling and refreshed. As we do the code switching to cope with it, we do the culture touring, indeed. We want to believe we have come to the wrong place, but the potential of diversity wears a smile, such sweet kindness shines further and further. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLo9PXn46pY Under some circumstances, if you feel like you were under a sky heavy with storms, you are not the only one having the sharp taste of agitated stress in your throat. However, mutual valuing sends a constant signal to us that no matter how small a mirror culture is, everything it represents can be big and beyond comprehension. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B63nxWR3zqA The purpose of communication is to flourish culture; the most inspiring communication coach is art. Everyone can be a curator. Whatever our definition of colorful can be, we just want to be more alive at the moment. Everyone can be a curator, collecting and cataloguing language and culture facts. Everyone can be a curator, exhibiting beautiful and meaningful fusion cultures with more attention and appreciation. Like the bright sparkling of the stars, code-switching brings back in a rush all our hopes regarding true diversity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd_3Tjpp82sFrom “Auguries of Innocence” (by William Blake)
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour…
What culture lasts? What language lasts? What is it that determines what lasts? The shape of diversity persists like history is always writing its signature. Diversity is the place where our inner light is coming from—we tend naturally toward light. And we should give enough electricity for thought and a playground to dream on. Diversity is the rhymes we believe in—for our souls, for our salvation. To switch or not to switch? Please remember to envelope your heart in love and peace, speak the language of the people, and“be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, those who matter don’t mind.” The two-way code switching, whatever it costs, is for true diversity. What we think and feel we think and feel on our own—our values and morals demonstrate our identity. It’s not that we want to shrink, not we want to not to be seen--it’s about what kind of people we want to be. It’s not to change our culture—it’s to understand more ways to communicate. Diversity is very good at everything except for disappointment; diversity is like a clock, giving a house its vital pulse. We realize and remember this world only as it initiates those single pieces of experience, such as persistent kindness and selfless love. Only love perseveres, like wings, in our hearts. Join us. Thanks!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W22bXjRVEFMWith Gratitude,
Jasmine
