文章Elisa » 週日 3月 04, 2007 10:53 pm

Happy Lantern Festival.
As usual, we always have riddles on this day.
So I am here to provide you some riddles to think about.
Of course, they are in English Version~

Use your imagination, and hope you enjoy it.

1. If you have it, you want to share it. If you share it, you don't have it. What is it?

2. Why the status of liberty stand on the New York's harbor?

3. If you were in a dark room with a candle, a woodstove, a match and a gas lamp which do you light first?

4. Take off my skin -- I won't cry, but you will! What am I?

5. The one who makes it, sells it.
The one who buys it, never uses it.
The one that uses it never knows that he's using it.
What is it?

6. What can go up and come down without moving?

7. What can you catch but not throw?

8. What didn't Adam and Eve have that everyone else has?

9. What do the numbers 11, 69, and 88 all have in common?

10. Why did the banana go to the doctor?

If you know the answers, please feel free to make a reply.
Otherwise, I will give out the answers until next Friday.

Wow~ I can't believe it.

文章Elisa » 週二 3月 06, 2007 9:07 am

Wow~ I can't believe it.

I wonder if these questions are just too easy or people in this club are too smart.
But when I first saw these riddles, I can't answer any of them. So I suppose people here must be very intelligent and conceptive.

To Tienhao Shen, I guess you are Tim. If I guess wrong, let me know please.

Your reply are entirely correct except No#7.
The answer is "cold." You can catch a cold but not throw it.
However, Yours give us another possible way to answer it.
Thanks a lot~

So we still have 5 riddles without answers, any one wanna give it a try?

Wild guess~~

6. What can go up and come down without moving?

Ans: (1)Anything that goes into an elevator or gets on an escalator.
Ans: (2)Somethings that don't move- like stairs, ladders, or roads- are also said to go up or go down.

10. Why did the banana go to the doctor?

Ans: Because it had gone banana(crazy).

It should be "go bananas", not "go banana". Here "babanas" is an adjective. You can't skip the "s" in "bananas".

By the way, an answer to this question is "Because it wasn't peeling well." See page 69 of Super Silly Riddles by Charles Keller.

To Jerry2508: Good guess, but sorry that the answer is wrong.

Things in elevator or escalator still be moved into another different space.
As same as elevator, the way by stairs, ladders or roads still change the place. Here, we have to think the one which can up and down without change places or space.

Give you a hint, it's unvisible and about the weather. Keep trying~ :D

Oh, oh. I'm gonna win the prize! It's "TEMPERATURE"!!! Yeah~~~

In that case, stock market prices, bank interests, currency exchange rates...all the numbers that fluctuate would make sense, right??!! ^^

BTW, there is no absolute answer to a riddle/a mind teaser, right??
The answer, A STAIRCASE can be found in the book-101 American English Riddles, page. 26.(written by Harry Collis & published by Passport Books)

Yes, I absolutely agree with you. The answer of riddle is a multiple choose. There is always no exactly correct answer.
