The idea whether big words are fun varies from person to person. People are often unfamiliar with big words, which may not be fun at all. Some might think the speaker is pedantic.

It would be all too convenient to be able to categorized certain words as "big".
There are tons of "borderline" big words out there.
Shall we avoid those too?
Some will choose to accommodate the lowest common denominator, some will not. And the system works both ways.

Advice to exercise discretion generally goes without saying.

I just thought that it is in this club's best interest for some of us to gently use some "big" words occasionally. We may not always be 100% accurate, but at least we tried.

I just wanted to introduce the idea of register. Nobody stops you using big words if YOU think it's appropriate. I want to stop discussing this subject and agree to differ.

No one can be stopped, but some can certainly be discouraged.
That is also an undesirable outcome.
Nevertheless, my intended focus of this discussion goes beyond that.

Big words seem to be the forbidden fruits
and I happened to be the snake
The sooner you learn to use big words without causing goosebumps
the sooner you will realize that the fruit actually is the ticket to get out of the Garden.
